New York State Bar Association meets in Stockholm

The Seasonal Meeting of the New York State Bar Association's International Law and Practice Section was held in Stockholm on September 17-20.

More than 250 lawyers mostly from New York, besides Sweden, other Scandinavian countries and the Baltic States as well as the rest of Europe and beyond, took part in the program. The program consisted of 25 panels as well as plenary and social functions, such as a welcome reception at City Hall, an evening at Skansen Open Air Museum and a gala dinner at the Vasa Museum.

The theme of the 2008 Seasonal Meeting was "Globalization: Harmonization of Laws - Is It Real?" Throughout the meeting the delegates had the opportunity to hear a number of distinguished speakers such as U. S. Ambassador Michael Wood, Professor Jonas Ebbesson and Hans Enocson of GE discussing climate change, and a human rights panel including former ambassador Hans Corell. There was also a discussion on file sharing with State-Secretary Magnus Graner and representative of NBC Universal.

The Meeting was supported by the local legal community including the Swedish Bar Association and other national bar associations, as well as by AmCham Sweden and the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce.

Next year's NYSBA/ILPS Seasonal Meeting will be held in Singapore.
