Juan Verde, DoC Washington: the national export initiative

Juan Verde, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe from the U.S. Department of Commerce, was the invited guest speaker at an afternoon event organized by AmCham and the U.S. Embassy.

The meeting took place at the US Embassy and catered by the American Diner.

Frank Carrico, Regional Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy, introduced Juan Verde who gave us an update and an inspiring presentation about the national export initiative and what it means to transatlantic trade.

Juan Verde was appointed by President Barack Obama in December 2009. He is responsible for developing and recommending policies and programs, as well as directing their implementation, with respect to U.S. economic and commercial relations with 52 countries. He also leads the Department of Commerce’s efforts to help solve trade policy and market access issues facing U.S. firms engaged in commercial activity throughout Europe and Eurasia.

Throughout his career, Mr. Verde has been committed to social entrepreneurship and community organizing. As former president of the non-profit, “The Biosfera Foundation”, he facilitated matchmaking contacts and the sharing of best practices among energy business leaders in order to promote the development of renewable energy projects and technologies. In 2007 he founded and became National Director of the Spanish branch of The Climate Project, Vice President Al Gore’s U.S. and international grassroots climate change initiative, which promotes eco-friendly values and public awareness about global warming.
