Is Kista the Silicon Valley of Sweden?

On Wednesday September 10, 65 participants attended a seminar, “Silicon Valley vs. Kista Valley”, hosted by AmCham’s Young Professional committee at the Kista Science Tower.

The event's two speakers were Beth Topolovsky, Managing Partner of Stinson Partners, and Ulf Sandmark, CEO of Electrum Foundation. Following a short briefing about the facility from Nils-Erik Selin, CEO of Kista Science City, Topolovsky presented her own experiences from working and living in the “valley”. Her topics included a brief overview of the history, the cultural aspects and the key factors for success in Silicon Valley, as well as a discussion of what aspects of this might – and might not – work in Sweden.

Sandmark took the stage after Topolovsky and shared his experience at Stanford University while conducting research for Electrum. He discussed the future and goals of the Foundation and Kista Science City. It was very interesting to see what is happening in Kista and how the region compares with developments in other parts of the world.

After the briefing, refreshments were served and guests networked and mingled.
