GREEN: How to travel Green

The U.S. Travel Association encourages all members of the travel community to learn from their peers and implement the policies that work for their business or destination.

TravelGreen is the go-to source for information on sustainability efforts within the travel community. From airlines to hotels to theme parks, America's travel community is on the cutting edge of new green policies, practices and technologies. The site documents the latest developments in sustainable travel and profiles case studies from each sector of the industry. Environmental sustainability is good business -- consumers are seeking eco-friendly options and businesses across the country are witnessing the bottom-line benefits of voluntarily embracing conservation, green building practices and other progressive techniques.

Transportation systems have an undeniable impact on the global environment, involving energy use, pollution, and waste streams.  Our global economy, however, could not exist without the advances we have made since the horse and buggy.  As we look toward the future, the challenge then becomes how do we marry the need to reduce transportation's footprint with the task of connecting people across the world?  This challenge is critical for the travel community as we transport business and leisure customers from work and home to destinations near and far, all the while trying to mitigate the environmental impact.

Increasing fuel efficiency, using alternative energy, decreasing carbon emissions, incorporating renewal resources in daily operations, investing in sustainability research, etc. are all important.  In addition, strategic planning, on both the industry and the regulatory level, must address the intersection of environmental regulations, corporate and consumer responsibility and transportation demands.
