An evening of art to chase away those fall blues
Swedish artist Agneta Livijn will be taking her “Lily Ponds” paintings to New York for the latter half of October and before she goes, AmCham members and their guests were given a preview and an opportunity to meet the artist herself.

With its spectacular views across the rooftops of Östermalm, the reception area on the top floor of Mannheimer Swartling’s offices provided the perfect venue for an after-work get-together. The low, leaden sky beyond the panoramic window provided a dramatic backdrop and contrast to the subtly toned paintings that were on display.
Swedish artist Agneta Livijn will be taking her “Lily Ponds” paintings to New York for the latter half of October and before she goes, AmCham members and their guests were given a preview and an opportunity to meet the artist herself. And, as usual at AmCham events, we got to do this in the company of a very varied and interesting crowd.

Agneta’s Coordinator Manager, Catherine De Gennaro, related enthusiastically how Agneta’s fascination with water lilies had been inspired by the garden of Yves Saint Laurent in Marrakech and the works of Claude Monet – and how she has developed that into a style that is uniquely her own. One of the most striking features of many of the paintings is the use of metallic foil to bring the shimmer of dappled evening light into the muted turquoise water of the lily ponds. Agneta explained that she does this by carefully applying the very thin metallic foil and weaving it into the paint.

Accompanied by a glass of bubbly and delicious canapés, it was a great way to conclude an otherwise gray autumn day.
If you happen to be in New York between October 16 and 31, stop by the Broadway Gallery/Soho to see Agneta’s solo exhibition. And, closer to home, you can find her colorful handmade ceramic designs at numerous retailers. More information is available at www.agnetalivijn.com.
