Government Relations Working Committee

The Government Relations Working Committee (GRWC) is AmCham Sweden's primary policy committee. The Working Committee also leads the Chamber's discussions with members and policymakers on the improvement of Sweden as an investment location.

AmCham is the only network for Swedish American businesses from all industries and growth stages, and as such is the voice of American business in Sweden. The most important goal is to make sure that this constituency has the opportunity to participate in the political process and contribute to society as a whole.

Mission

  • Engage in constructive high-level discussions with policymakers

  • Promote constructive debate on the merits of doing business in Sweden and on how the climate for American business in Sweden might be improved

  • Promote a free and inspiring exchange of ideas between American business leaders and Swedish policymakers

Workings of the GRWC

The Government Relations Working Committee represents AmCham Sweden in the public policy arena and provides a forum for the identification and tracking of policy priorities and issues of common interest to member companies. Once an issue is identified, the Committee advises the Chamber on whether and how to influence any underlying laws and public policy.  Where necessary, AmCham Sweden member companies are notified to allow for informed and balanced decision-making. The specialists on the Committee also educate members about the law-making process generally. In consultation with members at large, the Committee drafts an annual white paper setting forth the policy priorities of AmCham Sweden.

When necessary, the Committee ensures AmCham Sweden’s position is considered by lobbying public officials, their staff, and/or the general public. In doing so, the Committee provides information, analysis, and opinion to legislators, government leaders, and officials. The Committee strives to facilitate the legislative process by providing lawmakers with reliable information and accurate assessments of the effects of legislation.

The core of government relations is education:
