Rick Perry is Texas’ 47th Governor.  He was sworn in on December 21, 2000. During his 20 years of public service, education reform has been a top priority as well as jobs, health safety, transportation, tax reforms and air/water.To protect the Texas environment for future generations, Gov. Perry has helped pass laws that require tougher standards for older power plants, mandate that more of the state's electricity come from renewable sources and provide incentives for local governments to implement cleaner technologies. Perry also directed the Texas Department of Transportation to begin using cleaner burning fuels for vehicle fleets in large urban areas, and helped established pilot programs that monitor air and water pollution levels in near real-time so local officials can take corrective action before public safety is endangered.
