The first generation to have grown up with the Internet has reached lawful age. They have access to everything - and use the Internet for everything.  They download, network, communicate online, shop and blog. The first Internet generation builds web communities, and many of them contribute to the content on the web. In a couple of years they will be our decision makers, our people in the government and Parliament, holding leading positions in local and national branches of the government and leading our biggest companies.

As the Internet use increases, the World internet Institute’s latest report shows that every third child under the age of 7 now uses the Internet.

Through out their education almost all children use the Internet. Meanwhile, there are reports from the US; Parents are increasingly worried about the accelerating amount of time their children spend in front of the computer, and how they are affected by it.

It is only ten years ago that households began connecting to the web. Today they are constantly online via broad band, and Sweden tops the charts. What is happening – and where are we heading?

Listen to the world’s foremost Internet researcher, Mr. Jeff Cole, as he visits Sweden and Stockholm. Mr. Cole was the Media Advisor for Bill Clinton and Al Gore, and is the current Media Advisor for President Bush.

Mr. Cole is professor and Managing Director of the Center for the Digital Future at the University of Southern California. Since 2000 he manages the global study World Internet Project. Approximately thirty countries are involved where hundreds of scientists monitor 60.000 households yearly to see and understand the affect the Internet has on humans and our society.

Olle Findahl, Research Manager at World Internet Institute, presents the latest results from the study “Svenskarna och Internet 2008” (Swedes and the Internet 2008). Among other things he will show that even though Swedes are the most frequent Internet users in the world, they are also the most sceptical users in terms of judging the content on the web. In addition, Mr Findahl points to the fact that it is the Swedish retirees who place the country at the peak of Internet usage in the world.
