The AmCham’s young professionals were invited to the U.S. Embassy in Sweden to an afternoon seminar on May 12. We could learn more about Visas and Work Permits as well as Swedish-American Business.

Marcus Hansson, member of the Young Professionals Committee, introduced the two guest speakers.

First out was Frank Carrico, Regional Senior Commercial Officer and supervises Commerce offices in Sweden and Denmark and State partner posts at U.S. Embassies in Latvia and Iceland. He informed us about ”Swedish-American Business in 2010 and beyond”. Frank and his Stockholm Embassy office support a region-wide Nordic-Baltic outreach and webpage for new-to-market programs for U.S. companies, with a special focus on U.S. cleantech industry. Before Sweden, Frank has been serving in countries like Iraq, Jordan, Japan and Brazil.

Dan Mangis is the Deputy Consul at the U.S. Embassy and the topic of his presentation was “Business and Work Opportunities in the United States – Visas and Work Permits”. He manages the Immigrant Visa Unit at the Embassy. His previous assignments include Monterrey, Mexico and Washington DC and he will be departing this summer for a year-long diplomatic assignment in Baghdad, Iraq. Prior to his diplomatic career, he worked as an attorney in Austin, Texas and as a high school instructor in San Antonio, Texas.

We listened to interesting presentations followed by many questions from the audience – many of them planning on studies or work in the United States.
