Holiday awarenss - The Regional Security Officer at the US Embassy in Sweden would like to remind the AmCham member companies of the importance of good personal security practices.
We need to be cognizant of our profile of being affiliated with American businesses and our responsibility to employ diligence in our personal practices. Each member should make a self assessment of their security practices and try to think of common sense, sustainable ways to reduce personal risk.
* Act and dress appropriate and in a manner so as not to draw attention to yourself.
* Always remember to remove your Company ID when you leave the location, store it out of sight and keep it in a safe place.
* Make sure you keep a convenient list of emergency phone numbers nearby at home and when you are out.
* Avoid talking about your employment with strangers, such as taxi drivers.
* Vary your routes and times - and if possible, your means of transportation - when you come to and from work and any other frequently visited locations - such as the gym or grocery store.
* Always report suspicious activity to the Police as appropriate.
* Never carry large sums of cash on your person. Also avoid carrying all of your credit cards and other instruments of cash withdrawal together; and never carry your PIN numbers with your credit cards and cash cards.
* Try to commit door codes to memory instead of carrying them on your person, and avoid carrying keys to your residence with the listed address (e.g. your driver's license).
* Never carry all of your forms of identity with you at once - your national ID card, driver's license, passport, etc. Ensure you have copies of important documents and credit cards in a safe place.
* Avoid demonstrations and recognize the possibility of any public demonstration to turn violent unexpectedly.
* When possible travel in small groups. Generally, there is safety in numbers.
* From time to time, look around and ensure you are not being followed. If you think you are being followed, drive to the nearest police station to request assistance.
